Chapter 8 - 08 I Will Take Back Everything that Belongs to You

Ruby Green felt nervous under Lincoln Green’s gaze, Rose Taylor quickly sat next to him, gripping his arm, “Ruby was too surprised earlier. She failed to recognize Abigail. You know how much she has respected her sister over the years.”

Without even waiting for Lincoln Green’s reply, she quickly reproached Ruby, “Apologize to your sister now.”

“I’m sorry, Abigail. It’s my fault that I didn’t recognize you earlier. I misspoke,” Ruby Green was caught off guard by Abigail’s arrival causing her to be a bit uncharacteristic. Seeing her mother’s roundabout to defend her, she quickly apologized. With a low head and a gorgeous face filled with guilt, she appeared genuinely apologetic.

Indeed, Lincoln Green’s look softened. Remembering how Ruby had always been sensible and obedient, he immediately thought she truly hadn’t recognized Abigail. Brandon Piers was present, so he made a gesture with his hand, “Come on, greet Master Piers.”

“Master Piers.” As she looked up, Ruby’s gaze was full of affection, with her voice filled with drawn-out tenderness when she called out to him.

The sight gave Abigail goosebumps. She glanced amusedly at the handsome man on the sofa, who seemed to enjoy the scene.

Brandon Piers noticed the different gazes of the two women. He stood up gracefully, “Boss Green, it is settled then – the engagement will be on the 23rd of June. Is there any problem?”

“No, no.” Lincoln Green got up hurriedly. Even though having an unmarried daughter who was pregnant wasn’t something to be proud of, the prospect of forming a connection with an illustrious family like the Piers through marriage made these effronteries feel trivial. Moreover, the other party had taken the initiative to propose the marriage proposal.

“Boss Green, you’re too kind.” Brandon Piers spoke with a lighthearted arrogance typical of a graceful young gentleman. With a handsome face as if crafted by a monster, others refrained from looking at him, fearing they would taint his perfection.

Rose Taylor wanted to invite Brandon Piers for dinner at Green’s Mansion but he courteously declined. She stood up to see him out with Ruby, sending a stern glance at Abigail as she turned away from Lincoln Green.

Abigail merely shrugged indifferently, with her gaze landing on the impressive figure departing. Was Ruby really going to be engaged to Brandon Piers in two months?

Seems like she should do something about it.

Calculating her next moves, a smirk appeared in Abigail’s eyes as she turned and ascended the stairs.

Following her memory, Abigail went into Abigail Green’s room, which was the dimmest room situated in the farthest corner of the villa. The room that Ruby occupied now used to be Abigail’s.

It was a pity that during the first week when Rose Taylor and her daughter moved in, they persuaded the original owner to cordially give up her room to ‘guest’ Ruby, all for the sake of getting a compliment from the father about being understanding.

Since then, it was a case of the crow nesting in the magpie’s nest.

Abigail looked around the cramped bedroom, which was crammed with a mix of all sorts of stuff like a store room, with only a one-meter wide bed in the corner that belonged to the original owner.

The pale, faded bed sheets in this gloomy, damp bedroom seemed to reflect the original owner’s bleak, weak, and pitiful life.

Feeling a sudden tightness and pain in her heart, Abigail held her chest, “Are you feeling sad?”

No one responded to her. Feeling suffocated, she walked over to pull open the curtains, looking at the family of three downstairs sending off their guest, “Don’t worry, I’ll get back everything that belonged to you.”

Brandon Piers felt a gaze on him, and when he turned his head, he only saw a narrow window, unable to see anyone in the sunlight. But he was sure that the plump girl named Abigail was standing there.

Thinking about their three encounters, the woman was noticeably plump but had a pair of earnest, indifferent, mischievous peach blossom eyes that made a lasting impression, perfectly symmetrical peach blossom eyes, and those surprisingly well-formed legs, though they were plump.

It was pleasing to look at for someone with OCD.

Once they were in the car, Brandon Piers ignored the fawning overtures of Lincoln Green and the mother-daughter duo, he closed the car window, and instructed Pullan, “Look into the Green family… and also… Abigail.”

Mentioning this name, Brandon Piers seemed lost in thought, that woman, as stunning and attention-grabbing as a legend, had set many records in cardiothoracic surgery, but had died unexpectedly on the operating table.

Why did he link her with the plump girl he had just met? He shook his head, dismissing the thought.
