Chapter 248: Quest Completion and Rank Advancement Process
"Did he just say 36 claws?! Did he kill two koalas?!"
Once again the center of attention, Shye felt the satisfying tingling sensation in his heart.
Well, it\'s fair to say that he has always enjoyed being in the spotlight, although his desire for attention seems to have increased significantly compared to before.
Shye stopped caring about it a few days ago though.
He knew that the system was probably altering something inside him, however, for Shye, it was enough as long as he was aware.
There was nothing he could do anyway as he promised to help the old man.
In his heart, no matter what happened to him, as long as he could spend the rest of his days with his loved ones after helping the old man with his seemingly trivial yet profoundly deep request, then it was enough.
Should the Gods and Goddesses grant him the chance to reunite with his parents and extend their lives, then he would be willing to act as crazy as the old man wished him to.
In the end, they owed their lives to the old man, so until he helped him achieve his goal, his life was not his own.
After around 45 seconds, Shauna finished counting the claws and upon confirming that there were indeed 36, she couldn\'t help but be slightly dumbfounded.
"T-There\'s indeed thirty-six…"
Noticing her shocked reaction coupled with a few notifications popping up, Shye felt great.
[Congratulations! You\'ve earned 210 points!]
[Congratulations! You\'ve earned 81 points!]
[Congratulations! You\'ve earned 113 points!]
[Congratulations! You\'ve earned…]
…
After enjoying everyone\'s reaction and attention for a while, he spoke once more, this time for a proper objective.
"Uhm…Miss Shauna, I believe there\'s a quest clause correct? I would like to sell and exchange the excess titanium ivory claws please."
Hearing Shye\'s voice brought Shauna back to reality, slightly stuttering as he tried her best to reply.
"U-Uhh, oh! Yes, you have the option to exchange up to ten titanium ivory claws for guild points. As for the remaining ones, the quest client is willing to purchase them for 150 silver coins each."
"Thanks, I will exchange ten for guild coins and sell all the remaining ones to the client."
"O-Okay, Sir Crowley, let me process the completion for you…"
This time, it was Shye\'s turn to be slightly shocked as Shauna showed her mastery, processing the quest completion and rewards in just a minute and a half.
"All done, Sir Crowley, here\'s your guild badge, you may put it on top of that device over there at the center of that table to check how many guild contribution points you\'ve earned. Also, here\'s the 2500 silver coins quest reward along with the extra 1950 silver coins for the excess claws.
Thank you for your contributions to the guild." Shauna patiently said, bowing profoundly towards Shye after the quest completion process.
"Thank you for processing my quest completion, Miss Shauna." Shye replied, slightly bowing towards the rewards receptionist before continuing: "Oh, right, I don\'t know if you\'re the right person to ask but do you know how adventurer rank advancements work? I would like to know the exact number of quests I should complete per rank to advance…"
Hearing how polite the rookie was, Shauna smiled.
It seems like one shouldn\'t simply trust the rumors floating around the guild.
Normally, it was Aya\'s job to explain the stuff regarding rank advancement, however, she decided to make an exception for Shye.
"Sure, Sir Crowley. I believe you\'re currently gold rank, correct? To rank up to platinum, you have to earn a total of 2800 guild contribution points as for how many quests you have to complete to rank up, it depends on what quest you are going for."
"As per the guild\'s rules, an adventurer can take on a quest of any rank, however, if the quest rank exceeds the adventurer\'s by two whole ranks, then it would be posted up to the contention board for three days."
"Should an adventurer with a higher rank wish to take on the quest, then the lower-ranked adventurer would have to give it up, otherwise, he/she would have to fight the higher-ranked adventurer in a friendly duel at the guild\'s basement training grounds," Shauna explained with nary the least bit of impatience.
They, as guild staff, knew how to succeed in their own way.
Since their positions were a bit mundane compared to the adventurers, they had to be sharp and pay a bit more attention to the talented ones.
Who knows?
Maybe one day, when the talented ones grow to their peak, they will receive a few benefits.
In this world, things have always worked that way.
Only the best would receive the best and the rest would receive the rest.
"Thank you for your patient and detailed explanation, Miss Shauna," Shye replied, taking out two small pouches, each containing 100 silver coins, and handing them to Shauna. "It may not be much, but please accept it as a token of my gratitude. Also, could you kindly pass the other one to Miss Aya for me?"
"T-Thank you very much, Sir Crowley, I shall give the other one to Receptionist Aya," Shauna replied, a little excited.
It seems that not only was this rookie capable but also generous!
In addition to this, being Aya\'s close friend, she was privy to a bit more information compared to other staff members.
Hence, she knew that this rookie was kinda special.
To what extent? Aya didn\'t tell her.
Still, it was enough for her to inwardly vow to give special attention to this specific guildsman.
As for Shye, he was oblivious to the mental turmoil going on inside Shauna\'s head so after giving her a small tip, Shye walked towards the device, placed his guild badge to check his guild contribution points, and headed towards the exit.
From start to finish, he was all business, with a little bit of… attention-seeking, that is.
However, as exhaustion set in, Shye couldn\'t care less about such shallow stuff anymore.
There are plenty of chances in the future to do it again anyway.
Leaving through the guild\'s front door, Shye felt like spending a bit today, hence, he looked for a top-notch inn to dine at and sleep in for the night.
Considering how much he earned, indulging himself for one night shouldn\'t be overly extravagant.
Everyone who has worked diligently deserves a reward.
